American Experiential Education Association International Conference, Las Vegas, NV: November 2010

Since 1998 I've led a group of students on a multi-day experiential to Chaco Culture National Historic Park. During these trips, along with colleagues, I've kept notes on the impact that the environment has on student learning. As a result, with the co-leader of this trip, we presented on the topic of deep learning and processing that persists; more information can be found here.


National Staff Development Council Conference, Atlanta, GA: December 2010

Workshop presented on the topic of fostering creative, cross-generational learning teams, with co-teacher, Steve Holz-Russell; more information can be found here.


Technology, Reading & Diversity Learning, San Francisco, CA:  January 2009
TRLD is the only conference of its kind, integrating technology interventions with expert literacy
strategies to help students of all ages (K-12 through adult) succeed. TRLD brings together educators,
experienced literacy leaders, and technology experts to share, discuss, and work toward a solution to the
nationwide concern of bringing literacy success to ALL students (from trld.com).
   

PEAK Conference on Inclusion, Denver, CO: January 2009
The mission of PEAK Parent Center is to provide training, information and technical assistance to
equip families of children birth through twenty-six including all disability conditions with strategies to
advocate successfully for their children (from peakparents.org).
   

The American School Foundation of Guadalajara, Mexico: September 2008
At the invitation of the instructional leadership team at ASFG, I presented a day-long workshop with a
colleague from Denver Academy: Engaging the Millenial Generation: Balancing Content,
Strategies & Resiliency.

Teach For America Training Seminars, Denver, CO: 2008-2009
As part of on-going professional for Corps Members in Denver, I have been honored to be involved in
the training seminars since Teach For America started to place teachers in Denver. The topics have
ranged from checking for understanding to review topics from the summer institute literacy series.
   

Denver Public Schools Summer Institute, Denver, CO: 2000
After DPS professional development administrators attended one of my workshops, I was invited to
be part of the Summer Institute. I presented on using music in the language arts classroom and the
specific applications for second language learners.

Courage To Risk: Special Needs Collaborative Conference, CO Springs, CO: 1999-present
For the past ten years I have been honored to present at this important conference on a variety of topics that have
included engaging reluctant learners, defining literacy and student advocacy. The Courage to Risk Conference is a
collaborative conference comprised of a variety of organizations committed to the educational success of students
with diverse learning needs (from couragetorisk.org).

   

Colorado Language Arts Society Spring Conference, Denver, CO: 1999-present
Similar to my history with Courage To Risk, I have had the opportunity to present on topics of language and
literacy and how they impact students with learning differences. CLAS is an affiliate of the National Council of
Teachers of English. We support the teaching and learning of English language arts (from clas.us).
   

Denver Academy Symposium, Denver, CO: 2005, 2007, 2009, 2011
Every other year Denver Academy hosts a Symposium on Learning Differences and Unique Learning Profiles. The
keynote speakers have included Rick Lavioe and Daniel Amon. At each of the Symposiums I have had the
opportunity to present on varying topics related to learning differences.
